5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pressure Cooker,September 18, 2011

I love the ELITE EPC-808 8 QT Pressure Cooker by Maxi-matic. Everything I have tried in the past three weeks has been great. I am still learning what works the best for my family's taste. I really appreciate the 8 Qt pot! I've been able to feed us three, plus guests and/or have fantastic leftovers. I was able to can three qts of green beans from the garden. I didn't need to drag out the large old jiggle-top for just three quarts. I purchased Laura Sass PRESSURE PERFECT and Bob Warden's SLOW FOOD FAST. Between them and the manual I have been able to make some delicious meals. I borrowed Miss Vickie's book, PRESSURE COOKER RECIPES from the library- glad I didn't purchase it, not as useful for me, but appreciated the introduction pages. I really like the delay, and stay warm feature along with the ability to manually set times. I purchased mine through Best Buy on-line for $99, but needed to pick it up at the store.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this pressure cooker,October 14, 2011

I got this from HSN. The black version. I love this cooker I have made lots of different meals in a very short time and I don't have to worry if something is frozen, I can still cook it faster in here than defrosting and worrying about the microwave cooking it. Its HUGE. I think that's the primary reason I went for this one. We always have plenty of leftovers and although it has all those presets, I just cook it based on the time I want it in there. I am not sure where the reviewer missed that you can have it cook for a specific amount of time, but its possible and even better in my opinion.

My neighbor across the street, just received this pressure cooker purchasing it through HSN. HSN offered three colors of the cooker (black, red or blue) and she chose the blue one. I have a beef stew pressure cooker recipe that has been in my family over 60 years, so I went over there to test this machine out. I had another Elite model, but returned it because of defects. This cooker is big, and will take up a lot of counter space. Looking over the instruction manual, I was dissapointed to see that it was a 12 psi cooker. For proper cooking it should be a 15 psi, anything less will require adjustments to your cooking time. This machine is loaded with pre-sets, and you are at the mercy of them, but luckily you can adjust the time needed to cook. Using the pre-set my beef stew recipe turned out alright, but, the bottom ingredients were badly scorched and stuck on the container. Pre-sets I hate. However my neighbor has used it many times since and enjoys it very much. I didn't like the lid, which is made of a strong plastic that looks cheaply made and shows all of your fingerprints. The lid is attached to a plastic hinge, and can be opened to a upright position which is nice. Removing the lid to wash and replace back can be cumbersome until you get the hang of it. It does have a great display, with everything clearly written. If you don't mind the lower psi and pre-sets then this machine may be for you.
